Manish is an ace mountaineer. He has a heart of an explorer with a strong passion for outdoors. He
has trekked extensively in the Himalayas; climbed mountain ranges in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh,
Maharashtra and Karnataka; undertaken numerous rock-climbing and small peak expeditions across the
country; and won all major climbing championships from the year 1996-1999. Armed with an advance
mountaineering course from Directorate of Mountaineering and Allied Sports (DMAS), the youngest
in his batch, he represented the country in Singapore in 1996. Later he was appointed as Chief Coach
for National Sport Climbing Team by IMF. Manish’s entrepreneurial spark found expression when he
started Rocksport in 2001, which now stands as Great Rocksport Pvt. Ltd. Result-oriented with strong
analytical and interpersonal skills; Manish has a rich experience of over 14 years in the field of adventure
sports. Finance is his forte. He is the force behind planning, research and development. He believes that
outdoor education is important in the personal development of an individual.
Piyush has a Master’s in Tourism. He discovered his true calling in the field of environment and
wilderness education. An avid climber, Piyush served as a naturalist and field assistant for numerous
Tiger census and forest fire workshops. This is where his love for nature began and soon wanted to
spread his knowledge by inspiring a lot of young people into seeing that they can follow their dreams
and still be responsible. And that’s how Rocksport was born. A strong communicator and a good
listener, Piyush conducts and coordinates leadership and adventure camps for schools, colleges and
corporate groups. Coming from a business background, his client servicing skills are a part of Rocksport
folklore. Apart from leading adventure groups, he loves the challenges of fact-finding, brainstorming and
ideating and has garnered rich experience in the domains of marketing and strategy formation.
Anurag Malhotra – Marketing and Events expert, Dubai
Born and brought up in Delhi, Anurag Malhotra is a self confessed sports and adventure enthusiast. A product of DPS R.K. Puram and a Commerce graduate from DU, he found his calling as a broadcast journalist, working for Doordarshan, AIR and DD Sports channel as news and sports anchor. During his tenure he successfully covered several prestigious International sports events, such as the ICC World Cup Cricket (2003), Commonwealth Games - Manchester (2002), World Cup Football (2002), Asian Games - Busan (2002) and Sydney Olympics (2000). Currently he is based in UAE as a Marketing and Events expert. He specializes in TV and Radio Advertising focusing on brand awareness, marketing strategy and PR activities. At Rocksport, his role is to popularise the concept: Education beyond Books, to maximum schools in GCC region. The idea is to engage, motivate and ensure maximum participation of school children in Rocksport Outdoor Learning programs.
Dharamvir has been a trekker for 16 years. He is no Nike-sponsored athlete or X-Games champion,
but a man who lives for adventure. His first trek was to Sara Umga Pass at the age of 14. After doing a
basic course from Ramjas Sports and Mountaineering institute, he went on to complete the Advanced
Mountaineering and Liaison Officer Course from Nehru Institute of Mountaineering, Uttarkashi in the
year 2000. Dharamvir has undertaken several treks to Himachal, Garhwal, Kumaon and Uttaranchal.
Some of the notable ones are Sara Mangla Pass and Beas Kund in Himachal, Har ki Doon in Garhwal
and Panchulli Glacier in Kumaon. Apart from leading treks, Dharamvir has served as the Sport Climbing
coach for ITBP and has trained numerous military personnel from the 9 Para Special Force, 11 Gorkha
Regiment, 14 Gorkha Regiment, Rajput Regiment and Rajputana Rifles. At Rocksport, Dharamvir leads
the operations team conducting adventure activities.
Archana Sardana – BASE jumper, sky diving instructor, mountaineer
Archana Sardana has many ‘firsts’ to her credit. She is India's first woman BASE jumper; the first Civilian
Skydiving Demonstrator in India; and also the first Indian woman to fly the Indian flag in US skies.
Recipient of the ‘Adventurer of the Year Award’ by the Adventure Tour Operators Association of India
(ATOAI), Archana’s tryst with adventure sports began only after marriage, 12 years ago. Inspired by her
naval officer husband, she did her Basic and Advanced Mountaineering Courses from the Himalayan
Mountaineering Institute, Darjeeling and Nehru Institute of Mountaineering, Uttarkashi. Further, she
trained at Perris Valley Skydiving School, California. After 240 skydives (and counting) she has become a
‘C’ license holder that makes her eligible to carry solo demo jumps. A mother of two school going kids,
Archana enjoys hiking, camping, fishing, and just about anything outdoors. At Rocksport, she is an active
mentor for its numerous adventure and leadership programs. She lives by the motto: “There's one life,
live it”.
Ankit is the youngest member of the team. Back in school he participated in a lot of scouting camps
which sharpened his skills in first aid, patrol expedition, self cooking, lashing, mapping and estimation.
It earned him two awards - the Lieutenant Governor Award in 2001 and the President’s Award in 2003.
He also took active interest in theatre and was a regular with Khilona Theatre, Sahitya Kala Parishad and
NSD. An amateur photographer, Ankit loves travelling. He also looks after Rocksport’s travel operations,
marketing, sales and other operational details where he arranges trips and plans itineraries for travelers
with absolute ease. His scouting experience brings freshness and creativity to the various leadership
and adventure based programs of Rocksport which he only attends to add a little fun and creativity. He
believes that life comes with an expiry, so one must enjoy each and every aspect of it.
Mrs. Sital is an avid trekker. She has done extensive trekking in Rajasthan (Mt Abu and Pushkar),
Manali, Ladhak, Leh, Zozila Pass and Uttarkashi. A graduate of Allahabad University, she did a Diploma
in Physical Education in 1964 from Patiala University and went on to serve the Sports College of
Kurukshetra for 6 months. She then worked with Kanya Maha Vidyalaya, Jalandar in 1965 and pursued
a NCC course alongside. She became a NCC Commissioned officer in the same year. In 1966 she did her
Basic Mountaineering Course followed by an Advance Mountaineering Course in Manali with ‘A’ grade.
She was with NCC till 1976 as Adam Officer and was assigned in places like Moga, Ambala, Chandigarh
and Delhi. She also worked at the DAV School, Ranchi for a year where her husband, a CISF commander,
was posted. Later she joined DPS, Ranipur (Haridwar) in 1978 and joined DPS, Noida in 1983 before
retiring as HOD, Physical Education in 2004.In her 40 years of teaching career she developed a keen
interest to bring about positive transformation in kids through outdoor activities. At Rocksport, she
mentors various leadership programs.
Chanda Berwan - Senior Instructor, mountaineer, creative artist
Born and raised in Uttarkashi, Chanda's craze for mountain adventure was ignited by the awe-inspiring Himalayas. After completing her graduation from Hemant Nandan Bahuguna Vishwa Vidyalaya, she pursued her love for climbing at Nehru Institute of Mountaineering (NIM), Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand. After her advance training in 2005 she climbed and instructed extensively on steep slopes, rocks, boulders, moraine and ice in Garhwal, Himalaya. Her first trek was to Bhaghirathi 2-6512mtr in 2006. Some of her other successful climbs include Menthosa-6443mtr (2007), Satopanth-7075mtr (2008), and Shri Kanth-6311mtr (2009). As a hobby, Chanda loves to do all sorts of art and crafts. Being a senior instructor with Rocksport gives her an opportunity to come out with new games for kids at various Rocksport camps.
The love for outdoor adventure during school days sparked Deepak's passion for climbing. Being a Boy Scout and Guide at Harcourt Butler provided him plenty of opportunities to trek and explore all kinds of outdoor recreation. He received the Lieutenant Governor Award for his achievements in the year 2000. A graduate of Tourism Studies, DU (2009), he briefly served as an Instructor at IMF and enjoyed sharing his love for climbing and bouldering with kids at Camp Anubhav. In his spare time Deepak loves to play guitar. An active member of Rocksport family, he is fun to be with and there is never a dull moment when he is around. Most recently he has taken a sabbatical to further his career goals.
Gopal is a nature lover and wears his heart on sleeve. Extremely down-to-earth and soft spoken he loves to serve people. He feels that it is just an extension of his work. Apart from earning a Masters in Tourism he has an Advance Diploma in German Language. He has done standard rock climbing course from Nainital Mountaineering Club (NTMC). As one of the active members of Rocksport, his job is to create an exciting and comfortable learning environment at camps where people feel inspired and discover a sense of accomplishment. When not leading camps for Rocksport, Gopal works behind the scene designing programs and helping to run the business. In his spare time he is willing to take the road less traveled and gain some enlightenment through nature.
